Early Childhood Music Classes
(Babies - age 7)
Through fun and stimulating singing and rocking activities, rhythm exercises, scarf play, traveling movement, active listening and other activities, these classes are designed to lay the foundation for music literacy, musical aptitude, and a life-long love of music, regardless of what academic or professional path your child takes in the future. Every activity has a specific purpose intended to facilitate your child’s gross and fine motor skill development, cognitive development, physical development, and emotional intelligence to better prepare them for success in school and beyond.
Children delight in the diverse classroom activities, which harness their natural energy and desire to move and explore. Bouncing exercises, traveling movement, rhythm exercises, finger play, instrument exploration, and other activities help your child learn a steady beat, body control, impulse control, body awareness, and how to move with grace and confidence. Rocking songs, singing and listening exercises, and other activities teach your child to self-soothe, listen actively, follow directions, and be comfortable sounding their own voices in a group with others.
Music is a social activity. We deliberately keep class sizes small so that we can focus on each child in every class. Through greeting songs and circle-time activities, children start to understand that they are individuals making up the class community.
Winter/Spring 2019 Class Schedule
We are spending the rest of the 2018-19 School Year in Boston!
For the rest of the 2018-19 school year (January - July 2019), our Founder, Marlene Markard, is taking a working sabbatical in Boston, where she is completing her Graduate Certificate in Music Education and Autism at the Boston Conservatory at the Berklee College of Music, which is a program that is offered in conjunction with the Berklee Institute for Arts Education and Special Needs (BIAESN). Marlene has joined the BIAESN faculty at the Boston Conservatory, where she is teaching private piano and general music to students with special needs and twice exceptional students.
Please check back in the Spring for our summer and Fall programs. Thank you for your patience and loyalty!
